What to do in Hyères Top family activities not to be missed
October 7, 2024In the heart of Hyères lies the Villa Noailles, a landmark of modern design and French architecture in the Var department. Designed by architect Robert Mallet-Stevens in the 1920s, this Art Deco masterpiece marked the beginning of a new era of elegance and sophistication. If you’d like to discover the cultural heritage of the town of Hyères during your stay at the Hôtel Aux 3 Seigneurs de Fos, the Villa Noailles is the ideal place to visit.
A journey through history and design
Villa Noailles was built for Charles and Marie-Laure de Noailles, two patrons of the arts with a passion for design. The avant-garde spirit of the time is reflected in the villa’s unique architecture, characterized by clean lines, geometric volumes and the play of light. Every corner of the villa bears witness to the era of modernity, innovation and style.
The villa’s interiors are equally impressive, with bespoke furnishings and sumptuous materials testifying to the exceptional taste of its owners.
Villa Noailles Hyères: An architectural gem
The architecture of the Villa Noailles is characterized by its minimalist elegance, remarkable geometric volumes and astute layout of spaces. Visionary architect Robert Mallet-Stevens envisioned a house where interior space and nature would be organically integrated. He succeeded in creating a subtle combination of natural light and panorama. The interiors are designed to be both functional and flowing; it’s easy to move from one room to another, as they are all connected.
The modern architecture of this house is marked by roof terraces, banded windows and spiral staircases, all bold innovations that make it a pioneer of modern architecture. The terraced gardens, designed by Gabriel Guevrekian, offer breathtaking views over the Bay of Hyères, adding an extra dimension to the beauty of the site. The gardens have been awarded the “Jardins remarquables” label. The Villa Noailles remains a laboratory of architectural ideas, still inspiring many designers today in their quest for modern, functional spaces.
